To Get an Education or Not?

I can not believe the number of articles I come across discouraging individuals from pursuing higher education. I can not speak for everyone, but I will say this- the job market is tough. The economy may be getting better and there are probably tons of jobs out there, but you need to ask yourself- what sets you apart from everyone else? If you do not have the connection via a friend or family to get into that “dream” job or any job – what sets you apart from everyone else?

There are also a lot of successful business people who have college degrees and go on to be successful in their studied field or have started their own successful business in whatever area they chose. You have the opportunity to read about anyone you want on the internet and how they started off and where they are now, but no one will give you the step by step version. Create your own way. It’s only fair.

Education is still key to the future. While a lot of us hold college degree(s) and we are not working in the field of what we studied- it got us in the door to some company to start doing what we do now.

Some of us need this start in college to give us an idea what our next step will be. Some have the resources (as in people) to ask and guide them to their next step. Not sure which category you are in, but never underestimate the power of an education. Sometimes it’s a great place to learn how to network and polish your skills on being bold and asking questions. (which is what really gets you ahead in life)

I hope some of this makes sense. For those of you who already have a college degree, don’t leave the young bucks out there to fend for themselves- tell them your experience and what you would do differently or keep the same.

Either way, you can never be OVEREDUCATED~ In other words, never stop learning.
